About Jordan LowyI have been studying and practicing healing arts since 1987. This study was originally a means of aiding in my struggle with Crohn’s Disease, a chronic and debilitating digestive illness. Allopathic western medicine consisted of pharmaceuticals and surgeries. These treatments were toxic and invasive, and their side effects would often create their own lasting problems. While appropriate for trauma and crisis oriented situations, these approaches repeatedly failed to bring me back to lasting health. Unsatisfied with their pathological focus, I decided to pursue a more holistic, health oriented approach. At first I learned Reiki, and then expanded my study to massage; I was told by patients, fellow practitioners, and my teachers that I had a natural talent with healing touch.

Even after moving to San Francisco and getting a 9-5 job, I maintained a modest massage practice on the side. Over the years, stress at the job manifested in a recurrence of symptoms of my illness. Instead of returning to a western regiment of pharmaceuticals and possible further surgeries, I decided to explore Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), getting treatments at acupuncture school clinics around the Bay Area, and also began to explore and practice its 5 branches. These new perspectives of health care reignited my interest, and I left my traditional job to continue to study and practice healing arts full time.
While taking a massage class I came across Paul Pitchford’s Healing With Whole Foods, which focuses on using diet as the foundation to healing. This approach of using diet, along with receiving TCM treatments and practicing its philosophy of living, turned my health around. I loved massage, yet felt constrained by the limits of its scope of practice. I was drawn to TCM’s systematic approach, and eventually decided to immerse myself back in school full time to become a licensed acupuncturist.
The studies and practice of qi gong, yoga, meditation, tai ji, and nutritional therapy are integral parts of my daily self care, and contribute to and inform my patient care. I have helped literally thousands of patients over the years; via the application of the techniques I have learned, by guiding and teaching healthy self care practices, and through co-creating a healing environment which engenders lasting and profound transformational experiences.
